Between the years 1983, and 1993, well before Ai Weiwei became internationally recognized as an artist and activist, he lived in a tiny apartment in New York’s East Village, and was a prominent member of a community of expatriate Chinese artists and intellectuals in the neighborhood’s then burgeoning avant-garde scene.
This historical photograph was taken in 1988 by the famous American poet and activist, Allen Ginsberg, who was a friend and mentor to Ai Weiwei during his years in New York. Each photograph is authenticated and stamped by the "Allen Ginsberg Trust".
This is the first in a series of limited edition photographs and prints to be produced.
